Obituary

Ollie Mae Banks was Born on November 7, 1931 to the late Louis T. Banks and Drucilla Banks.

Ollie was raised in Minden, Louisiana, where she received her formal education in the Webster Parish School District. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior at a young age, beginning a lifelong walk of faith that remained the foundation of her life.

It was in Louisiana that she met the love of her life, John Roscoe Myles. They were united in holy matrimony on September 29, 1947 at the Blue Flame in Minden, Louisiana by Reverend O.S. Coleman. To this union, eleven children were born. They journeyed from Louisiana to Oxnard, California, then to Los Angeles, California, before finally settling in the “big little town” of Pacoima, California, in 1962, where they raised their family and established deep community roots. Together they built a life centered around love and family.

Ollie worked in the medical field as a vocational nurse. As her family grew, she became a devoted stay-at-home mom, nurturing and raising her children with strength, wisdom, and unconditional love, creating a home filled with care, guidance, and a deep sense of family.

Later in life, she returned to school and earned her Associate of Arts Degree, going on to become a teacher at Vaughn Street Elementary School. She faithfully served in the field of education for over 20 years, touching the lives of countless students with her patience, care, and unwavering commitment.

Ollie was a God-fearing woman who loved the Lord and the Church, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher. She had a passion for cooking large meals and baking numerous cakes and pies during the holiday seasons, sometimes staying up all night to complete the grand holiday feast for her family and loved ones. She found joy in tending to her garden, where she grew a variety of fruits and vegetables. She enjoyed listening to gospel music and grassroots blues. Most dear to her heart was spending time with her family at family gatherings. Ollie created a legacy rooted in love, unity, and faith.

Ollie was preceded in death by her parents Louis T. and Drucilla Banks; her beloved husband, John Roscoe Myles; her daughters Dinaner Myles and Joan Myles; one son Henry Paul Myles; great-grandson Devontae Sorrells; brother George Bank; sisters Lottie Williams and Beatrice Banks; and niece Jacqueline Williams Branch.
